Introduction


With the rapid development of the internet and short videos, along with the widespread availability of portable high-definition devices, micro-dramas have surged in popularity, becoming a cultural phenomenon in film and television. To promote innovation and development in micro-dramas and provide a platform for screenwriters to showcase their talent and enrich scriptwriting for micro-dramas, the Chinese Writers Association USA is hosting the competition in partnership with Dreamood Pictures and the World Chinese Micro-Fiction Society. This competition aims to discover and showcase outstanding micro-drama scripts, with winning entries to be published in the collection "First Sino-American Writers' Cup: Award-Winning Micro-Drama Scripts."

Details are as follows:

  1. Competition Name:
    "Sino-American Writers' Cup" First Global Film and Television Micro-Drama Literary Script Grand Prix.

  2. Themes (Choose one of the following five):

    • Life Reversal - Interwoven setbacks and adversities lead to rebirth and resurgence. The protagonist defies fate, rising from despair like a phoenix.

    • Personal Growth - Journey from the ordinary to the extraordinary, achieving greatness through transformation.

    • Romantic Love - Exploring the multi-dimensional expressions of love through encounters, companionship, understanding, and steadfast vows.

    • Feminism - The protagonist breaks free from constraints in pursuit of equality and freedom, unleashing feminine power.

    • Cultural Collision - Characters from different cultural backgrounds meet and interact, exploring cultural conflicts and reconciliations, showcasing the charm of multiculturalism.

  3. Scope:
    Global submissions accepted in both Chinese and English.

  4. Host:
    Chinese Writers Association USA.

  5. Organizer:
    Dreamood Pictures.

  6. Co-organizer:
    World Micro Dramas Research Association

    World Chinese Micro-Fiction Society.

  7. Chief Advisors:
    Ye Xin: Noted writer, vice-chair of the 9th China Writers Association, and screenwriter of TV dramas. Lisa Yang: Member of the Hollywood Women's Film Association's international executive committee, screenwriter, producer, and lead producer of The Oscar Team.

  8. Advisors: Various prominent individuals including professors, writers, critics, and media executives from around the world.

      10. Submission Period:
      May 15, 2024, to September 30, 2024.

      11. Submission Requirements:

    • Must be original works. Legal issues related to plagiarism are the responsibility of the author.

    • Episodes are 1-2 minutes each, totaling 60-80 episodes with a maximum length of 90 minutes.

    • Submit a synopsis of up to 2000 words for a one-minute episode and scripts for 20 episodes.

    • Entries should be submitted via a QR code specific to the competition, and documents should be sent to the email: support@chinesewritersusa.org

      12. Judging and Awards:
      Initial, secondary, and final reviews will determine winners, including a first prize of $1000, second prizes of $500 each, third prizes of $300 each, along with special recognitions like Best Newcomer and Best Creative Script, though these do not include cash awards, only certificates.

      13. Copyright Arrangements:
      Submitters agree to grant publishing rights to CWAA and Dreamood Pictures. Winning works may also be published or translated into other languages.
