Remarks from Ten Award-Winning Writers at the Film Festival

In the golden autumn of October, Chinese-language creators, filmmakers, screenwriters, writers, tech innovators, and artists from around the world gathered in New York for the 3rd International Chinese Original IP Film Festival and the 1st New York AI International Film Exhibition. On October 18, the awards ceremony was held grandly at a Broadway theater. Nine members of the Chinese Writers Association of America received multiple honors, shining on the international stage. Below are the awards, certificates, winner photos, and their remarks.

Best Original IP Award

Recipient: Jenny Sun — The Sixth Person

Jenny Sun’s Remarks:
"The Best Original IP Award was the last creative award of the evening. Every fellow writer on stage had their moment in the spotlight, and I almost gave up the hope of bringing an award home. Then my name appeared on the big screen. At that moment, I was almost in a daze. When the microphone was handed to me, I even forgot where I was. That mix of surprise and joy felt like a sudden gust of wind, pushing me from my long, solitary writing island back into the bright world. In my rush, I could only manage a few words of thanks.

I am grateful to everyone who devoted their passion and wisdom to the festival, to the judges for their encouragement, and to the friends and family who have silently supported me along the way. Honestly, this award is not just recognition—it’s a push. It reminds me not to doubt the meaning of literary creation, to write down the stories in my heart, and let them grow between light, shadow, and words as a kind of natural experiment. Therefore, this honor is also a call to action, a motivation to keep going."

最佳IP改编奖 Best IP Adaptation Award

李岘 & 张慧玲《键鈕2》Maria Lixian Gee-Schweiger & Janice Huiling Zhang <Number2 > Adaptation & AI Filmmaking

Li Xian’s Remarks:

"Receiving an award on the Broadway stage in New York—twice—was a first in my life. But the real highlight for me on that stage was seeing that ten members of the Chinese Writers Association of America received various awards.

Dreams coming true are never mere coincidences. They are the accumulation of time and the steadfastness of belief. Our association members are connected by literature, and this year’s IP Film Festival brought us together in New York. In gratitude, I must acknowledge Sunny Zhang, Chief Planner of the International Chinese Original IP Film Festival, who over the past three years has single-handedly led the team to turn an idea into a bridge across regions and languages—from Vancouver to Boston, and now New York—creating a constellation where literature and cinema shine together overseas.

I am delighted to have had the opportunity to participate in the forums and discuss the relationship between AI and literature with fellow creators, and even more thrilled to have hosted the inaugural launch of World Chinese Literature during the festival.

Although we are now far from the Broadway stage lights, the light of literature and film in our hearts will guide us through crowds and time, inspiring us to create more luminous works of storytelling and cinema."

Zhang Huiling’s Remarks:

"Debating through light and shadow has long ceased to be a dream of Mount Hua, and I have forgotten which blade I was meant to hone over the past ten years. The vastness of daily life, filled with worldly duties and quiet joys, occasionally allows literature and art to flash briefly—often after a drink—resonating with that restless longing deep in the blood.

Every act of writing is a form of practice, a search for a way through the crevices of inner struggles. It was through this journey that I found an organization—the honor of joining the Chinese Writers Association of America and participating in the Original IP Film Festival. Last year’s trip to Boston was immensely rewarding; I marveled at the organizers’ keen vision, gathering elites at Harvard to discuss the future of AI cinema. At that time, only writer Binghe was experimenting alone. This year, numerous writers showcased AI works in New York, thanks largely to Sunny Zhang and her team.

This time, I collaborated with Chair Li Xian on the AI short film Number 2: Adaptation & AI Filmmaking, once again experiencing the heat and pain brought forth by light and shadow. That awakened creativity feels like a rebirth of the soul.

I look forward to next year—returning to the Mount Hua of light and shadow, and once more wielding the sword within my heart."

Best Theme Idea Award

Recipient: Fei Liu — Mother’s Diamond Ring

Fei Liu’s Remarks:
*"Meeting in New York in the golden autumn was truly a pleasure. In just four short days, we experienced so many unforgettable moments. We spent two days on a beautiful New York journey—walking along Central Park with fellow writers, sharing the autumn sunshine. We strolled through SoHo, enjoyed coffee under the Brooklyn Bridge, and took photos in front of Manhattan landmarks, museums, galleries, and historic buildings like Grand Central Terminal. At the Flushing Library, we were honored to witness the inaugural launch of World Chinese Literature. Days like these are truly precious!

The festival may have concluded, but the creative dreams in our hearts seem just beginning! I am deeply happy to receive an award at this year’s AI Film Festival. Holding the Golden Bull Award, I feel immense gratitude to the organizers for their hard work, and to the CWAA members who persistently pursue their passions, sharing their literary works and creations. I feel that this festival is not only a celebration of awards but also a source of encouragement for one’s own creative journey—an opportunity to further develop writing and explore AI-assisted creation.

I sincerely hope that the CWAA continues to strive forward, achieving even greater brilliance at the 4th IP Film Festival next year!"*

Best Theme Idea Award

Recipient: Deliang Shi — Touch

Deliang Shi’s Remarks:
"I have been to New York many times and watched shows on Broadway several times, but I never imagined I would one day stand on a Broadway stage to receive an award. Winning the Best Theme Idea Award was a tremendous surprise and encouragement for me. I also wonder if I might be the first engineer with a PhD to receive an award on Broadway.

Since attending the 1st International Chinese Original IP Film Festival in Vancouver three years ago, I participated in the Boston festival last year, and this year’s New York festival marks my third time. Over these three festivals, I have personally witnessed the growth and maturity of the International Chinese Original IP Film Festival. The forums and the genuinely insightful presentations by guests have been eye-opening, even for someone like me who considers himself an AI expert.

I am grateful to the organizing committee for creating new opportunities for international Chinese-language IP in the age of artificial intelligence. I look forward to the festival growing even stronger and hope to reunite with friends next year."

最受大众欢迎作品奖 Most Popular Work Award

钟梅《愿望素》Mei Zhong 《Wishware》

Mei Zhong’s Remarks:

"In the golden autumn of October, I set off from Wuhan, traveling through Guangzhou and Los Angeles for thirty hours before arriving in Portland. After a brief stay, I hurried to New York. Upon arriving, the excitement of meeting everyone immediately eased the fatigue and jet lag. Our group of writers strolled across the Brooklyn Bridge, Central Park, and the SoHo art district, experiencing both the relaxation and vibrancy of New York; we also explored Wall Street, Fifth Avenue, and Grand Central Terminal, soaking in the city’s bustling energy. Yet, at the 9/11 Memorial Pools, it felt as if the noise had been muted, leaving a profound, lingering stillness in my heart.

The festival slowly unfolded, and I especially enjoyed the masterclass and the four forums, gaining invaluable insights from experts and industry professionals. The dinner at the apartment near the Empire State Building and the awards ceremony at Broadway were thrilling experiences. Winning an award on this trip was not only a delightful surprise but also an incredible honor, filling me with gratitude and appreciation.

Liveliness and serenity, clamor and calm—this is the rhythm of New York, and the rhythm of life.

Farewell, New York; farewell, Film Festival."

Most Popular Work Award

Recipient: Hao Wen — Memory Box

Hao Wen’s Remarks:

"In New York this golden autumn, the morning light rests on the skyscrapers and also touches the softest corners of my heart. Receiving the Most Popular Work Award in this city of dreams is a tremendous honor. I am deeply grateful to the festival organizers for their trust and recognition, and to every reader and viewer who paused in the story and resonated with me.

Writing, for me, is a dialogue with the soul. Words are like light—they illuminate the heart and light the path ahead. Every character, every scene, is a tiny star within me, forming the lens through which I view the world. The journey of IP creation allowed me, for the first time, to experience the miracle of intertwining words and images—realizing that stories can take shape, grow wings, and fly even farther.

I am thankful to friends and mentors who have accompanied me along the way; your warmth has kept hope alive on the solitary path of creation. May we all continue to row with our pens, navigating the vast seas of the mind, and find our own light among the waves of words."

Outstanding Original IP Award

Recipient: Yalan — That Little Lamp

Yalan’s Remarks:
"In the golden autumn, we arrived in New York. The red leaves blazed like fire, skyscrapers shimmered in the morning light, and the 3rd International IP Film Festival grandly opened here. Walking along the artistic avenues of Central Park, I felt the passion and spirit of the artists; strolling across the Brooklyn Bridge, gazing at the Statue of Liberty holding her torch at the end of the bay, my heart was filled with boundless anticipation.

Entering the New York Film Academy, masters and professors shared their creative experiences and life insights—every word a gem, leaving me profoundly inspired. Later, we visited Wall Street, touching the gleaming horns of the Golden Bull, and stood before the 9/11 Memorial, watching the white bird symbolizing hope, feeling a mixture of sorrow and pride.

At the end, with hearts full of excitement, we ascended the stage to receive the award. The stage lights sparkled, our fellow recipients held up their Golden Bulls, and smiles froze amidst cheers and applause. One teacher said earnestly, ‘Write well, and aim for the grand prize next year.’ I remembered this advice—it will be the driving force for my continued creation."

Outstanding Original IP Award

Recipient: ShuiXian — A Record of the Loss of Family Happiness

ShuiXian’s Remarks:

"Being in New York and sharing this experience with so many friends who love writing brings me immense joy. Everyone is so talented, and I have learned a great deal. Simply being part of this festival is already a reward for me. The path of writing has no shortcuts—it requires steady, grounded effort.

This experience with IP writing has been entirely new. I never imagined that AI could become a companion in writing, like invisible wings helping my stories travel further. Though I am still learning, each attempt builds a little more confidence in myself.

I am grateful to the organizing committee, the volunteers, and all the friends who have supported and encouraged me. I also thank those who quietly write and share their stories. You make me believe that the power of words comes from persistence and passion.

New York is a city that never sleeps. Everyone is on a journey, yet everyone is also dreaming. This city has taught me that being grounded does not mean looking down and rushing—it means being able to lift your eyes to the sky amidst the crowd. Writing is the same—it is not merely expression, but also exploration. We are all writing our own stories while learning to converse with the world."

 Outstanding Original IP Award

Shen Linzhao (Chang Zhao) — Remarks:

"I am deeply grateful to the judges for recognizing my humble work, Sakura’s Guardian. The creation of this piece was an intensive journey of over three months. It explores the collision between AI technology and medical ethics in the context of end-of-life care. In the script, I sought to examine: when AI can encapsulate memories and simulate emotions, how should humans define the boundaries between reality and fiction? When technology promises to ‘preserve’ lost moments, what is the cost of that preservation? I aimed to build a bridge for dialogue between the cold logic of technology and the warm humanity of ethical concern.

This award is not only a heartfelt acknowledgment of this creative journey but also a powerful resonance with the future questions we collectively care about.

I sincerely thank the festival organizers for recognizing the value of such a story with their broad vision. The foundation of ethical technology is always humanistic spirit. I firmly believe that even the most sophisticated algorithm must ultimately return to the deepest concern for humanity. May Sakura’s Guardian continue to move forward, its subtle light touching hearts and inspiring reflection on life, dignity, love, and choice."
