Remarks from Ten Award-Winning Writers at the Film Festival
In the golden autumn of October, Chinese-language creators, filmmakers, screenwriters, writers, tech innovators, and artists from around the world gathered in New York for the 3rd International Chinese Original IP Film Festival and the 1st New York AI International Film Exhibition. On October 18, the awards ceremony was held grandly at a Broadway theater. Nine members of the Chinese Writers Association of America received multiple honors, shining on the international stage. Below are the awards, certificates, winner photos, and their remarks.
Best Original IP Award
Recipient: Jenny Sun — The Sixth Person
Jenny Sun’s Remarks:
"The Best Original IP Award was the last creative award of the evening. Every fellow writer on stage had their moment in the spotlight, and I almost gave up the hope of bringing an award home. Then my name appeared on the big screen. At that moment, I was almost in a daze. When the microphone was handed to me, I even forgot where I was. That mix of surprise and joy felt like a sudden gust of wind, pushing me from my long, solitary writing island back into the bright world. In my rush, I could only manage a few words of thanks.
I am grateful to everyone who devoted their passion and wisdom to the festival, to the judges for their encouragement, and to the friends and family who have silently supported me along the way. Honestly, this award is not just recognition—it’s a push. It reminds me not to doubt the meaning of literary creation, to write down the stories in my heart, and let them grow between light, shadow, and words as a kind of natural experiment. Therefore, this honor is also a call to action, a motivation to keep going."
最佳IP改编奖 Best IP Adaptation Award
李岘 & 张慧玲《键鈕2》Maria Lixian Gee-Schweiger & Janice Huiling Zhang <Number2 > Adaptation & AI Filmmaking
Li Xian’s Remarks:
"Receiving an award on the Broadway stage in New York—twice—was a first in my life. But the real highlight for me on that stage was seeing that ten members of the Chinese Writers Association of America received various awards.
Dreams coming true are never mere coincidences. They are the accumulation of time and the steadfastness of belief. Our association members are connected by literature, and this year’s IP Film Festival brought us together in New York. In gratitude, I must acknowledge Sunny Zhang, Chief Planner of the International Chinese Original IP Film Festival, who over the past three years has single-handedly led the team to turn an idea into a bridge across regions and languages—from Vancouver to Boston, and now New York—creating a constellation where literature and cinema shine together overseas.
I am delighted to have had the opportunity to participate in the forums and discuss the relationship between AI and literature with fellow creators, and even more thrilled to have hosted the inaugural launch of World Chinese Literature during the festival.
Although we are now far from the Broadway stage lights, the light of literature and film in our hearts will guide us through crowds and time, inspiring us to create more luminous works of storytelling and cinema."
Zhang Huiling’s Remarks:
"Debating through light and shadow has long ceased to be a dream of Mount Hua, and I have forgotten which blade I was meant to hone over the past ten years. The vastness of daily life, filled with worldly duties and quiet joys, occasionally allows literature and art to flash briefly—often after a drink—resonating with that restless longing deep in the blood.
Every act of writing is a form of practice, a search for a way through the crevices of inner struggles. It was through this journey that I found an organization—the honor of joining the Chinese Writers Association of America and participating in the Original IP Film Festival. Last year’s trip to Boston was immensely rewarding; I marveled at the organizers’ keen vision, gathering elites at Harvard to discuss the future of AI cinema. At that time, only writer Binghe was experimenting alone. This year, numerous writers showcased AI works in New York, thanks largely to Sunny Zhang and her team.
This time, I collaborated with Chair Li Xian on the AI short film Number 2: Adaptation & AI Filmmaking, once again experiencing the heat and pain brought forth by light and shadow. That awakened creativity feels like a rebirth of the soul.
I look forward to next year—returning to the Mount Hua of light and shadow, and once more wielding the sword within my heart."
Best Theme Idea Award
Recipient: Fei Liu — Mother’s Diamond Ring
Fei Liu’s Remarks:
*"Meeting in New York in the golden autumn was truly a pleasure. In just four short days, we experienced so many unforgettable moments. We spent two days on a beautiful New York journey—walking along Central Park with fellow writers, sharing the autumn sunshine. We strolled through SoHo, enjoyed coffee under the Brooklyn Bridge, and took photos in front of Manhattan landmarks, museums, galleries, and historic buildings like Grand Central Terminal. At the Flushing Library, we were honored to witness the inaugural launch of World Chinese Literature. Days like these are truly precious!
The festival may have concluded, but the creative dreams in our hearts seem just beginning! I am deeply happy to receive an award at this year’s AI Film Festival. Holding the Golden Bull Award, I feel immense gratitude to the organizers for their hard work, and to the CWAA members who persistently pursue their passions, sharing their literary works and creations. I feel that this festival is not only a celebration of awards but also a source of encouragement for one’s own creative journey—an opportunity to further develop writing and explore AI-assisted creation.
I sincerely hope that the CWAA continues to strive forward, achieving even greater brilliance at the 4th IP Film Festival next year!"*
Best Theme Idea Award
Recipient: Deliang Shi — Touch
Deliang Shi’s Remarks:
"I have been to New York many times and watched shows on Broadway several times, but I never imagined I would one day stand on a Broadway stage to receive an award. Winning the Best Theme Idea Award was a tremendous surprise and encouragement for me. I also wonder if I might be the first engineer with a PhD to receive an award on Broadway.
Since attending the 1st International Chinese Original IP Film Festival in Vancouver three years ago, I participated in the Boston festival last year, and this year’s New York festival marks my third time. Over these three festivals, I have personally witnessed the growth and maturity of the International Chinese Original IP Film Festival. The forums and the genuinely insightful presentations by guests have been eye-opening, even for someone like me who considers himself an AI expert.
I am grateful to the organizing committee for creating new opportunities for international Chinese-language IP in the age of artificial intelligence. I look forward to the festival growing even stronger and hope to reunite with friends next year."
最受大众欢迎作品奖 Most Popular Work Award
钟梅《愿望素》Mei Zhong 《Wishware》
Mei Zhong’s Remarks:
"In the golden autumn of October, I set off from Wuhan, traveling through Guangzhou and Los Angeles for thirty hours before arriving in Portland. After a brief stay, I hurried to New York. Upon arriving, the excitement of meeting everyone immediately eased the fatigue and jet lag. Our group of writers strolled across the Brooklyn Bridge, Central Park, and the SoHo art district, experiencing both the relaxation and vibrancy of New York; we also explored Wall Street, Fifth Avenue, and Grand Central Terminal, soaking in the city’s bustling energy. Yet, at the 9/11 Memorial Pools, it felt as if the noise had been muted, leaving a profound, lingering stillness in my heart.
The festival slowly unfolded, and I especially enjoyed the masterclass and the four forums, gaining invaluable insights from experts and industry professionals. The dinner at the apartment near the Empire State Building and the awards ceremony at Broadway were thrilling experiences. Winning an award on this trip was not only a delightful surprise but also an incredible honor, filling me with gratitude and appreciation.
Liveliness and serenity, clamor and calm—this is the rhythm of New York, and the rhythm of life.
Farewell, New York; farewell, Film Festival."
Most Popular Work Award
Recipient: Hao Wen — Memory Box
Hao Wen’s Remarks:
"In New York this golden autumn, the morning light rests on the skyscrapers and also touches the softest corners of my heart. Receiving the Most Popular Work Award in this city of dreams is a tremendous honor. I am deeply grateful to the festival organizers for their trust and recognition, and to every reader and viewer who paused in the story and resonated with me.
Writing, for me, is a dialogue with the soul. Words are like light—they illuminate the heart and light the path ahead. Every character, every scene, is a tiny star within me, forming the lens through which I view the world. The journey of IP creation allowed me, for the first time, to experience the miracle of intertwining words and images—realizing that stories can take shape, grow wings, and fly even farther.
I am thankful to friends and mentors who have accompanied me along the way; your warmth has kept hope alive on the solitary path of creation. May we all continue to row with our pens, navigating the vast seas of the mind, and find our own light among the waves of words."
Outstanding Original IP Award
Recipient: Yalan — That Little Lamp
Yalan’s Remarks:
"In the golden autumn, we arrived in New York. The red leaves blazed like fire, skyscrapers shimmered in the morning light, and the 3rd International IP Film Festival grandly opened here. Walking along the artistic avenues of Central Park, I felt the passion and spirit of the artists; strolling across the Brooklyn Bridge, gazing at the Statue of Liberty holding her torch at the end of the bay, my heart was filled with boundless anticipation.
Entering the New York Film Academy, masters and professors shared their creative experiences and life insights—every word a gem, leaving me profoundly inspired. Later, we visited Wall Street, touching the gleaming horns of the Golden Bull, and stood before the 9/11 Memorial, watching the white bird symbolizing hope, feeling a mixture of sorrow and pride.
At the end, with hearts full of excitement, we ascended the stage to receive the award. The stage lights sparkled, our fellow recipients held up their Golden Bulls, and smiles froze amidst cheers and applause. One teacher said earnestly, ‘Write well, and aim for the grand prize next year.’ I remembered this advice—it will be the driving force for my continued creation."
Outstanding Original IP Award
Recipient: ShuiXian — A Record of the Loss of Family Happiness
ShuiXian’s Remarks:
"Being in New York and sharing this experience with so many friends who love writing brings me immense joy. Everyone is so talented, and I have learned a great deal. Simply being part of this festival is already a reward for me. The path of writing has no shortcuts—it requires steady, grounded effort.
This experience with IP writing has been entirely new. I never imagined that AI could become a companion in writing, like invisible wings helping my stories travel further. Though I am still learning, each attempt builds a little more confidence in myself.
I am grateful to the organizing committee, the volunteers, and all the friends who have supported and encouraged me. I also thank those who quietly write and share their stories. You make me believe that the power of words comes from persistence and passion.
New York is a city that never sleeps. Everyone is on a journey, yet everyone is also dreaming. This city has taught me that being grounded does not mean looking down and rushing—it means being able to lift your eyes to the sky amidst the crowd. Writing is the same—it is not merely expression, but also exploration. We are all writing our own stories while learning to converse with the world."
Outstanding Original IP Award
Shen Linzhao (Chang Zhao) — Remarks:
"I am deeply grateful to the judges for recognizing my humble work, Sakura’s Guardian. The creation of this piece was an intensive journey of over three months. It explores the collision between AI technology and medical ethics in the context of end-of-life care. In the script, I sought to examine: when AI can encapsulate memories and simulate emotions, how should humans define the boundaries between reality and fiction? When technology promises to ‘preserve’ lost moments, what is the cost of that preservation? I aimed to build a bridge for dialogue between the cold logic of technology and the warm humanity of ethical concern.
This award is not only a heartfelt acknowledgment of this creative journey but also a powerful resonance with the future questions we collectively care about.
I sincerely thank the festival organizers for recognizing the value of such a story with their broad vision. The foundation of ethical technology is always humanistic spirit. I firmly believe that even the most sophisticated algorithm must ultimately return to the deepest concern for humanity. May Sakura’s Guardian continue to move forward, its subtle light touching hearts and inspiring reflection on life, dignity, love, and choice."
Grand Launch of World Chinese Literature in New York
The inaugural issue of the international literary journal World Chinese Literature, organized by the Chinese Writers Association of America (CWAA), was officially launched on October 18, 2025, at the Queens Library Theater in New York. The event included a ceremonial ribbon-cutting and a book giveaway.
This event was part of the International Forum of the 3rd International Chinese Original IP Film Festival, hosted by Ms. Shen Yimeng, the forum’s chief moderator. Nearly one hundred writers and experts attending the festival witnessed this historic moment.
In his speech, Dr. Li Xian, CWAA President and Editor-in-Chief of World Chinese Literature, explained: World Chinese Literature is currently an annual journal, with each issue containing approximately 250,000 words and focusing on a specific literary form. The inaugural issue, titled the “Micro-Drama Edition,” includes four micro-drama scripts of 60 episodes each, 23 story synopses with professional critiques from the “CWAA Cup: 1st Global Micro-Drama Literary Script Competition,” and four scholarly articles on micro-dramas written by senior researchers of the World Micro-Drama Research Association.
Six editorial board members, three CWAA members attending the festival, and several authors from the inaugural issue joined the stage to witness the launch of World Chinese Literature, marking a significant milestone in the journal’s debut.
At the launch ceremony, Ms. Cao Xiaodong, Secretary-General of the 3rd International Chinese Original IP Film Festival and renowned international film producer, said:
"Today, we witness the debut of World Chinese Literature, a joyous occasion for the field of Chinese-language literature. Its launch is not merely the birth of a publication, but also a new bridge connecting Chinese communities worldwide and carrying forward Chinese culture. I sincerely hope that World Chinese Literature will cultivate the fertile ground of written expression, gather the finest global Chinese-language creations, warm hearts with excellent works, and inspire reflection. May it blossom into a vibrant new flower in the garden of Chinese literature! I also look forward to more colleagues and readers paying attention, supporting it, and jointly writing a new chapter in Chinese-language literature."
Ms. Chen Ruilin, CWAA advisor and overseas Chinese literature critic, remarked:
"First, I have long hoped that North America would have such a magazine, one that facilitates exchange among writers worldwide. I also sincerely thank the Chinese Writers Association of America for accomplishing this remarkable endeavor. I congratulate this journal and wish it every success!"
Mr. Zhang Ci, author of the inaugural issue, Hollywood screenwriter, and producer, said:
"I am deeply impressed by Dr. Li Xian’s leadership and dedication. I have never met someone so tough and committed, producing such a professional journal. Winning awards is secondary—the launch of this magazine, as Ms. Chen and Ms. Cao have said, represents a transformative moment for North American Chinese literature. Now it is up to AI to turn these stories into films."
Due to time constraints, not all speakers on stage could deliver remarks. Dr. Li Xian, Editor-in-Chief, and Ms. Chen Xi, Director of the Queens Library, jointly lifted the red cloth covering the World Chinese Literature poster, bringing the launch ceremony to its climax and completing the book-giving ceremony. Amid enthusiastic applause, sixteen editorial board members and authors from the inaugural issue took a commemorative group photo on stage. With interactive participation from the audience, everyone together wished World Chinese Literature continued success and a brilliant future!
Amid the cheers and well-wishes, all 60 copies of World Chinese Literature purchased by the 3rd International Chinese Original IP Film Festival were quickly snapped up. Those who missed out expressed their regret, promising to purchase the journal on Amazon.
During the brief launch ceremony, Editor-in-Chief Dr. Li Xian, on behalf of the editorial board, thanked the festival organizers for facilitating the debut of World Chinese Literature at such a prominent moment.
In a post-event interview, Dr. Li explained:
"The inaugural issue is themed the ‘Micro-Drama Edition,’ reflecting the recent rapid rise of micro-dramas globally, which are highly condensed, cross-media, and carry a strong sense of the times. Through examining the unique value of micro-dramas in terms of media, structure, and narrative, we hope to provide a theoretical response to practice and help readers understand the characteristics and development prospects of micro-dramas as an emerging literary form."

Excellence Award – Sun Bo:
In recent years, short dramas have become extremely popular. As a traditional screenwriter, I had never watched one before and even looked down on them a little. However, on June 8 last year, I attended a film forum hosted by the China-US Writers Association and was captivated by Ms. Yinuo’s lecture. Two hours of practical insights completely changed my view of short dramas. I quickly began watching several short dramas, some exquisitely produced and engaging. I was completely won over and felt inspired to create. Within a week, I decided to submit my first short drama, “Mom, I’m Home”, to the competition. Thanks to the judges’ generous recognition, I was fortunate to receive an Excellence Award. Without this competition, I might never have ventured into short dramas. Heartfelt thanks to Chairman Li Xian and the organizing committee for their hard work!

The award warms the heart, and the poetic spirit flows freely.
Thanks to the China-US Cup for supporting our dreams, which carry us to distant mountains.

Thanks to the Chinese Writers Association in the U.S. for organizing today’s literary and film event. Centered around dreams, vision, and the future, writers from across the globe gathered to bridge overseas Chinese literature with the film industry. Excellent literature combined with film generates immense energy. We encourage writers worldwide to provide outstanding literary works for Chinese film and fulfill their mission as overseas writers, leveraging literature’s impact. Once again, congratulations on the successful conclusion of the inaugural competition!
Advisor – Zheng Nanchuan:
Chairman Li Xian, attending the event today, I am deeply moved. Organizing a global event like this as a non-profit is extremely challenging. Without your literary expertise, passion for writing, social dedication, the trust of your team, and everyone’s collective effort, this event would have been impossible. You have nearly pioneered a global competition led by an overseas writers association, offering substantial prizes and focusing on the trending “micro-literature” category. I have seen some events, but none as well-executed as this. Truly commendable.
Advisor – Li Shanglong:
I am grateful to the organizing committee for inviting me as an advisor. Though I am now an entrepreneur in AI, I still identify foremost as a writer. Writing brings me peace and allows me to perceive the flow of the world through my own perspective. Thank you to the organizers for giving me the chance to empower more writers.
Mona, President of the European Chinese New Immigrant Writers Association:

Special Messages Draw Global Attention
Headquartered in the picturesque coastal city of San Diego, California, the Chinese Writers Association of America (CWAA) received worldwide recognition during the CWAA Cup Global Micro-Short Drama Screenplay Awards Ceremony.
The Mayor of San Diego, Todd Gloria, sent a congratulatory letter to the event, stating:
“Dear guests of the CWAA Micro-Short Drama Awards Ceremony: Congratulations to the organizers and participants for creating such an outstanding international event celebrating artistic creativity and innovation. The micro-short drama format fully demonstrates the power of concise storytelling and its ability to connect diverse voices and audiences around the world.
As Mayor of San Diego, I am proud to recognize the Chinese Writers Association of America — a national nonprofit organization headquartered in our city. CWAA is dedicated to advancing literary and cultural excellence across the nation. Seventy of its members’ works have been collected by the UCLA Library, enhancing San Diego’s artistic reputation and making a lasting impact both domestically and internationally. Thank you for providing a space where creativity and talent can flourish. I wish this ceremony great success and inspiration.”
U.S. Congresswoman Judy Chu also extended her congratulations through a video message:
“I want to thank the Chinese Writers Association of America (CWAA) and its President, Dr. Gee-Schweiger, for organizing this wonderful event that brings together storytellers to celebrate the power of words and creativity. I would also like to thank Chief Advisor Lisa Yang for her invitation and her contributions to our community.
Since its founding in 2015, CWAA has built a thriving platform for writers, fostering cultural exchange and community connection through storytelling. Today’s competition showcases CWAA’s leadership in promoting the innovative micro-short drama format — a concise and powerful way to inspire creativity, highlight diverse themes, and advance global inclusiveness in culture. I congratulate the entire CWAA team for successfully hosting such a meaningful event. Your efforts have enriched our communities and paved the way for more connected stories and creative endeavors in the future. Congratulations on this remarkable achievement!”
Lisa Yang, member of the International Executive Committee of the Hollywood Women’s Film Association, screenwriter, and Chief Producer of The Oscar Team, also sent her best wishes in a congratulatory message:
“Although I could not attend the ceremony due to work commitments, I would like to express my feelings in ten words: ‘With a worldly attitude and a transcendent spirit, do things well.’ As Chief Advisor of this year’s competition, I am deeply gratified to see President Gee-Schweiger and all team members complete such a challenging task with selfless dedication — demonstrating professionalism, perseverance, and precision.”
In a video message, Ling Dingnian, President of the World Chinese Microfiction Research Association, expressed his admiration and congratulations:
“My respect and best wishes to the organizers, participants, sponsors, supporters, and winners of this event! Your efforts, creativity, and hard work have been recognized and rewarded. In the rapidly rising field of micro-short dramas, you are at the forefront — playing a leading role that will leave a remarkable mark in both literary and cinematic history.”
Authoritative Judging and Award Announcement
At the award ceremony, Dr. Gee-Schweiger, President of the Chinese Writers Association of America (CWAA) and Chair of the Organizing Committee, delivered a comprehensive report summarizing the competition. She stated:
“Throughout the judging process, we strictly followed a three-stage evaluation system — preliminary, secondary, and final reviews — conducted by the panel of judges. In early October, four preliminary judges began assessing submissions using both a scoring system and overall commentary to shortlist entries. In early November, another four judges carried out the secondary review based on the first-round feedback, evaluating each work with fairness and objectivity by considering the author’s background, synopsis, and screenplay, and then recommending the award rankings. In December, two judges who served on both the secondary and final review panels consolidated the results to determine the final list of winners.
It was gratifying to see that the judges’ feedback was remarkably consistent, allowing the selection to conclude smoothly. The entries this year included screenplays written in Chinese, English, and bilingual formats. Notably, many participants and winners are experienced creators, including professional screenwriters and directors. However, we also observed that while some well-known writers submitted outstanding stories, their works were not fully suited for the micro-short drama format and had to be regrettably set aside. At the same time, several emerging writers stood out with original ideas and scripts that perfectly fit this form, truly embodying the mission of the competition — to provide a platform for creators at all levels to showcase their talent.”
Cui Ping, Executive Director of the Judging Committee and Secretary-General of CWAA, served as the ceremony host. She invited Attorney Wang Zhiming, the association’s legal advisor, to read the notarization statement, affirming that the entire judging and award process was conducted with fairness, transparency, and integrity, and that all results were valid and authentic.
The First Prize was presented by Dr. Gee-Schweiger, Chief Judge and Chair of the Organizing Committee, along with Mr. Tan Ruiqin, CWAA Treasurer, who awarded the winner Ms. Zhang Ci a certificate of honor and a cash prize of USD 1,000. A member of the Chinese Writers Association since 1983 and now based in Hollywood, Ms. Zhang won for her 60-episode micro-short drama series Bank, which impressed judges with its unique theme and concise storytelling. The project has strong potential for production.
The Second Prize was awarded by Eno Q, President of Dreamood Pictures, to Wang Fei for Setting the Trap and Zhong Mei for My American Rebirth, each receiving USD 500. Wang Fei’s work was praised for its fresh market-oriented theme, while Zhong Mei’s screenplay stood out for its creative use of time travel, skillfully blending ancient and modern cultural elements. Both projects are under consideration for production.
The Third Prize was presented by Dr. Shi Deliang, CWAA Deputy Secretary-General, Executive Group Leader of the Organizing Committee, and Preliminary Judge of the competition, together with Ms. Liu Fei, CWAA Board Member and Head of the Organizing Committee’s External Relations Group. Each winner received a USD 300 prize.
The Excellence Awards were presented by Wen Hao, Vice President of CWAA and Vice Chair of the Organizing Committee, to ten recipients.
Ms. Zhang Haoyin, Chairwoman and CEO of the Longteng Cultural Development Foundation and Chief Curator of the International Chinese Original IP Film Festival, presented the Creativity Awards to six recipients.
Ms. Zeng Xiaowen, CWAA Advisor and former President of the Chinese Pen Society of Canada, presented the Finalist Certificates to four honorees.

We look forward to seeing more of these award-winning works brought to life on screen.”
The ceremony lasted one hour and forty-five minutes, exceeding its scheduled time, yet the enthusiasm of nearly one hundred participants — including guests, judges, committee members, advisors, award recipients, and CWAA members — never waned. The event concluded amid warm congratulations and heartfelt wishes.
Although the awards were presented virtually via Zoom, without red carpets or flashing cameras, the ceremony integrated pre-recorded on-site footage, creating a unique blend of online and offline experiences that offered a refreshing sense of connection and celebration.。

“Come Into the Bowl! Halfway Through the Competition, Prizes and Investors Are Waiting!”
First “Chinese Writers Association in the U.S. Cup” Global Micro-Series Scriptwriting Competition Reaches Midpoint
July 30, 2024
The inaugural “Chinese Writers Association in the U.S. Cup” Global Micro-Series Scriptwriting Competition has officially reached the halfway point. While many entries have already been submitted, the organizing committee has received numerous inquiries from prospective participants about submission rules and procedures. To clarify the details, our reporter Fanyu conducted an online interview with Dr. Li Xian, Chairman of the Organizing Committee, answering the most frequently asked questions.
Why Launch This Competition?
Dr. Li explained that the rapid growth of the internet, short videos, and portable HD devices has made micro-series a rising phenomenon in global film and television culture. “This competition aims to promote innovation in micro-series while giving writers a platform to showcase their talents,” he said. Organized by the Chinese Writers Association in the U.S., hosted by Dreamood Pictures, and co-organized by the World Chinese Microfiction Research Association, the event seeks to discover outstanding scripts and compile winning entries into an anthology titled Winning Works of the First ‘Chinese Writers Association in the U.S. Cup’ Global Micro-Series Scriptwriting Competition. Dr. Li also emphasized that the initiative hopes to support the production of winning scripts into fully realized micro-series.
What Makes This Competition Unique?
According to Dr. Li, the competition stands out in three key ways:
It focuses specifically on “micro-series for film and television,” defining the type of eligible submissions.
It emphasizes the “literary script” as the required format.
Unlike many other competitions, it offers cash prizes and invites Hollywood investors to review submissions and potentially invest in production.
“Micro-series production shifts the focus from directors to writers, highlighting the scriptwriter’s central role,” Dr. Li noted. “Having been a full-time TV drama writer in China, I have a deep passion for scripts. Launching this competition on a global scale reflects that passion.”
Prizes and Investment Opportunities
The competition will award:
First Prize: $1,000 (1 winner)
Second Prize: $500 each (2 winners)
Third Prize: $300 each (5 winners)
Special Awards: Best Newcomer, Best Creativity, and Excellence Awards (20 recipients, certificates only)
Dr. Li clarified that submission of entries implies consent to allow the organizers to publish, promote, and disseminate works online. Winning works may also be translated into other languages. If a script is adopted by a production company, authors negotiate fees directly with the company; prizes from the competition are independent of any production contracts.
Themes and Eligibility
Participants may choose from five themes reflecting current micro-series trends:
Triumphant Comeback: Overcoming adversity and achieving success.
Personal Growth: From ordinary to extraordinary through character development.
Romantic Love: Exploring the complexity of love through passion and enduring relationships.
Feminism: Characters pursuing equality, freedom, and empowerment.
Cultural Clash: Depicting cross-cultural encounters, conflicts, and reconciliation.
The competition is open globally, with submissions accepted in Chinese or English. More than 30 literary organizations worldwide support the event, including associations in North America, Europe, Asia, and Oceania.
Ensuring Quality and Authority
To guarantee fairness, top industry experts have been appointed as advisors, including acclaimed writers, professors, producers, and executives from the film and television sector. Notable advisors include Ye Xin, Cao Wenxuan, Lisa Yang, and Liu Siran. Their involvement ensures the competition maintains the highest standards of credibility and authority.
